General Issues

Please be aware that FDMS units have been installed at the Swansea AURN, Morfa and Morriston stations measuring PM10 with an additional FDMS unit at the Swansea AURN measuring PM2.5. Numeric and index banded data is now being presented on these pages - please treat the particulate index banded data with caution until the new gravimetric banding scheme is released by DEFRA.

Diffusion tube data for the current survey is now available from these pages. Shortly, additional historical survey data will be uploaded and made available.

A webcam has been installed within the Neath Road street canyon - live images can be viewed - please see Hafod DOAS, station infomation - see the monitoring station in action, for access to the webcam. The Axis media plugin will be reqired to view the images - you will be prompted for installation if required.

30m Mast - Cwm Level Park
Due to a change in the data collection method employed the data upload is not fully functional/automatic at present but we are getting closer to acheiving automatic upload every hour. Please bear with us while the site is updated manually every day or so.
Hafod Street Canyon Meteorological Monitoring Station
The storm which affected much of the UK during the weekend (9th - 11th January 2009) has resulted in substantial damage to the mast that housed the monitoring equipment at this site. Eight screws that held the mast core to the mounting bracket all sheered, leaving the mast in a dangerous condition and liable to fall onto the pavement or into the highway. The mast has been removed - no data will be collected for the foreseeable future.
Morfa Groundhog
There was a power failure at the site between 11:00 am 24th June 2009 and 10:00 am 25th June 2009. All data has been lost between this period.
Morriston Groundhog
Due to continued failures with the API H2S analyser, it has been decided to cease measurement of this parameterwith effect from the 21st January 2009. This parameter has been suspended from display on this website. Should you require this data prior to 21st January 2009 then please email us at pollution.swansea.gov.uk and we will forward the data onto you.
OPSIS Guildhall Meteorological Station
Due to renovation works underway within the Guildhall building, the LAN network connection has been disabled. No data has been collected since 19:00 GMT 31st July 2008. The station has also now lost power. As a result, it has been decided to de-commission the station with immediate effect. Arrangements will be made to access the historical dataset (1995-2008) within the Data and Reporting section.
Swansea AURN
Due to changes made within the UK Automatic Network, the Ozone measurements will cease at the Swansea AURN on the 27th November 2008. However, the ozone analyer will be relocated to a new background site (co-located with a NOx analyser at Cwm Level Park) to supply background data on these two pollutants.

Welcome

To see summary data quickly with links to all parts of the site click on "summary data for all sites" underneath the map animation section to the left of the page.

The Website has been re-launched during the last week of July 2008 following the addition of new features. An easy to understand symbol driven system (to the right) will now take you quickly to the chosen item/feature for that site. Please use the symbol key above these new features to identify the area of interest. In addition links to new data feeds such as the AQ500 Wind Profiler are now live (see below the symbols/station listings)

Swansea has an established programme of automatic and continuous air quality monitoring dating back to 1994. The City & County of Swansea has declared the Hafod district of Swansea as an Air Quality Management Area. Currently, there are 5 air quality stations (two with basic meteorological data), one 30 metre meteorological mast, one street canyon meteorological monitoring station and one AQ500 SODAR (wind profiler)(data coming live soon) providing data to these pages. Additionally, real-time PM10 (dust) data is available from 10 locations in Swansea - mainly around busy junctions.

This website is intended to be an online resource of near real-time air quality data and meteorological data, not only for Swansea residents but also for students and medical health professionals alike.

An index has been created to indicate the number of days Swansea and the individual sites are within the Low/Medium/high and Very High categories - this data is available for the current year as well as previous years.

All passive nitrogen dioxide diffusion tube measurements are now available on line for both historical (indicated as grey) and current measurement sites. Please see the bias correction factor to be applied to the annual mean for the year of interest.

A live traffic cam has been provided to monitor traffic flows within Neath Road, Hafod - please see the Hafod Opsis DOAS station information and look under the link "see monitoring station in action". You will need to install the Axis media plugin to view the live images for which Administrator rights will be needed on Windows XP etc.

The site now has Accessibility Options targeted to comply as closely as possible with the AA standard.
